Poetry and Music

FRIDAY, FEB. 17TH


Jovan Mays was born in a suburb of Denver, Colorado named Aurora in 1986 from a Brooklyn born sharp tonged mother and a Queens raised blue collar father. His introduction to hip hop molded his vision of culture and art. He attended Chadron Sate College in Nebraska for 6 years and earned a B.A. in History and Coaching along with playing football, wrestling, acting and cultivating the spoken word in many forms in this small rural town.
He is a member of the 20ll Denver SlamNUBA Slam team that won the National Poetry Slam in Boston, Massachusetts and is currently working in the education world as a teacher of performance poetry to instructors and students along with touring the country performing

The Blacklight Lounge is the place where music meets art,meets poetry,meets YOU.  This showcase will feature the talents on Northern California's BEST artists and performers...We are celebrating Black History Month in a special way the year!!

Raymond Walker is an accomplished painter who has had work featured around the world. He is bringing his art to the Moon River inn for display and also some of it will be for sale.

NerCity is one of California's most accomplished poets...he is the creator and host of the Golden Gate slam, and has produced several CD's and books of his work....

Lakeisha Mondy has been blazing the scene for the last two years in Sacramento, and has just returned from a tour in japan...she will be rocking live sets with her band....

Lakeisha Mondy this Wed at Mahogany!!



Mahogany Urban Poetry series is the longest running urban culture venue in sacramento....we are celebrating the close of another year by bringing you Miss Lakeisha Mondy, Anthony Coleman, and Cole Dutcher and their live music set. If you've never heard Miss Mondy, you are in for a treat!! She just returned to the U.S. after touring in Japan and overseas, and she's back to make it happen for us at Queen Sheba....

Sandbloom in Sacramento

This Saturday, come check out Kevin Sandbloom at our newest venue, Sekou's BBQ!!
455 bercut drive (right off the i-5 richards blvd,near the old Rusty Duck restaurant)

doors will open at 9pm, and we will have the live show. After the show, stay for DJ AMP ONE and dance the night away. While you are in the building, sample some of the great food they have at Sekou's..my suggestion would be the bottomless wings or the Red Snapper,but the whole menu is rockin!
